Australia -- and Marriage!

We arrived at Brampton Island after a ride on a 6 seater Cessna from Mackay - which was alot of fun, except Amy hates to fly so she literally hid behind her sweatshirt for most of the 10 minute journey.

Brampton Island is a small island in the Whitsundays and is primarily a nature reserve. There is one resort on the island and that is it. There were only about 80-90 people on the entire island and you feel very isolated and alone. We met with the wedding planners and looked at a couple places for the ceremony. We found right along the beach and under a tree as it was REALLY REALLY hot (about 35 degrees). The next day we relaxed by the pool, went swimming and talked about our last night as boyfriend and girlfriend.

After a restless sleep we awoke early to have something to eat. As we walked back from breakfast the clouds started to roll in and so did the rain. I could hardly believe it -- in the past 4 weeks of travelling we had not seen one drop of rain and of course the day of our ceremony it rains. I think it was a blessing in disguise as all the stress that I had was put into willing away the clouds. To make matters worse our celebrant and photographer were delayed getting to the island due to the weather. However, about 4o mins before the ceremony the clouds opened up and the sun broke through...it went from being an overcast day to a perfect day!

The ceremony was simple and short with the photographer and restort staff member serving as our witnesses. Amy tried not to laugh throughout the ceremony but it really was a special moment. After the formalaties were out of the way it was on to the picture taking....
Since Brampton is a small island the tides are very severe, luck would have it that as we began our photos we were at low tide, which allowed for us to walk out to the sandbars and get some really beautiful shots. The colours on the water were amazing and I think we got some really good shots. The photos took a good 4 hours and we went around a good part of the island. We were lucky enough to have a big sand monitor (ie large lizard) pop its head behind us for a few shots :)

That evening we had a private dinner but were so exhausted from being in the sun all day that we were asleep by 10pm.

The rest of the week all we did was relax. We went snorkeling in front of our room, chilled by the beach, salt water pool, went for a hike along the trail where we saw kangaroos and some seriously ugly and massive spiders. We did a jet ski safari one day which was amazing! We got up to 80km/hr on them and got some serious air over the waves with it too -- so it was good fun really good fun.

From Brampton it was off to Kempsey to see Amy's family -- however we had to fly from Mackay to Brisbane, Brisbane (overnight) to Sydney, Sydney to Port Macqurie (where Amy's parents would pick us up). This would be the first time meeting my in-laws but since we were married at this point I guess they cant send me back!!
